The village hall has always been the focus of village
social life. The whole range of events have been held in it from
wedding receptions, to meetings, shows, keep fit classes and even
a badminton club.Villagers have worked for many years to change the hall from a timber framed and iron clad building without any toilet or cooking facilities to a modern structure with all mod. cons. The hall is run by a management committee representing every village organisation..

Starting in 1979 a 2 day "Festival" (it became the May
Fayre in the following year) was held to raise funds for the
renovation of the building. The first stage was the building of an extension
for toilets, a kitchen and store room. After several more May Fayres and with the help of various grants (mainly from County and District councils) local builder John McGuiness, who carried out all of the renovation work, replaced the iron cladding with bricks and put a new roof on. (right) |

A
later project replaced the flat roof above the kitchen extension. The
kitchen has recently been refurbished and toilet facilities for the disabled
were added in 2006. A ramp from road level now allows easy access for wheelchairs. The hall is available for hire for any event. It is approximately 20' by 40' or 6.1m x 12.2m (800 sq ft or 74.3 sq m) Contact Sue Spriggs (247 8559 or email SMS5@le.ac.uk) |
