Shearsby Fete
David Durran writes:-
Once again, in an indiferent summer, we have been lucky with the weather for our latest event in Shearsby - the Village Fete. The build up during the week had been wet and cold, causing many a headache for the organisers, but, on the day, the sun shone down.
The people flowed in to enjoy our traditional fete with the usual side shows and stalls. The band played - and our novelty "Jail" filled up with "delinquents"!!
Seriously, we all had a great time, and over £2,000 was raised for church funds.
Grateful thanks to all who helped to make this a huge success. We hope to do the same in 2008.
Friday 25th August
The marriage of Sean Durran of Shearsby to Sandrine Goetz of Strasburg, France took place at St Mary's Catholic Church, Husbands Bosworth.
They met at Loughborough University whilst studying for their Doctorates in Chemistry. At present, they live in Dublin, in the Republic of Ireland.
Saturday 5th August and Sunday 6th August
Flower Festival
The good week-end weather brought a number of visitors to St Mary Magdalene church in Shearsby, where a flower festival, accompanied
by a display of wedding dresses and villagers' wedding photographs was held.
The floral decorations were artistically arranged by villagers, both past and present - even those with no previous experience!

Bill Mackie gave a short presentation on the history of the church, which was enjoyed by many visitors.
Saturday afternoon saw Strung Out Sisters, a local string and vocal trio, performing at the bottom of the church steps. To visit their web site, click here»
On both days, home made refreshments were available in the Village Hall - thanks to all who prepared the delicious goodies and also to those who gave up their time to serve.
A generously supported raffle was held in the Village Hall on both days.

A grand total of £1137 was raised. This will go towards church funds.

R & B on The Green, or St. Trinian's brings Glam Rock to Shearsby
Richard Kew writes:-
At 6 p.m. the skies darkened as clouds concent
rated over Shearsby, drops of rain speckled the specs on the upturned worried faces – committee members were heard muttering 'We're doomed, we're all doomed' as the crowd gathered – however, hard though I tried, I could not see exactly what they were gathering.
Luckily as the music started the skies lightened and we were treated to a selection of 60's hits by The Silhouettes, followed by a surprise spot by visiting American R&B legend Mary Flower who is currently touring the UK. She had been gently persuaded to come along and join in the festivities by Music on the Green regular Richard Dilks – Good one, thanks Richard! (link to Mary's web site»
Continuing with my weather report, by nine thirty it was still, warm and dry –
unlike the dancers leaping around to the sounds of The Platforms who by now were frenzied, hot and perspiring - many of whom seemed to have acquired glittery wigs and inflatable guitars. No, I have no idea why. Link to The Platforms web site»
Statistical analysis of the proceeds and the use of a left over meringue pie chart revealed about 600 revellers contributed over £5000 to the Community Association funds – those of you with an enquiring mind may be asking where is the committee going for its annual holiday and will it be Rio again this year. Sadly I have to report that it will, no doubt, be spent on the same sort of items as last year, namely improvements to the facilities on the green, sunshine gifts for those in hospital, a children's Christmas party, the annual Senior Citizens lunch, repairs to the church and so on.
Thanks to all who helped – as ever too many to list but you know who you are.
