| End of an Era! The Arnesby Post Office closed it's doors for the last time tonight. The village's last remaining amenity was the victim of cost cutting dogma and it was closed despite protests and petitions in support of keeping it open. A group of thirty villagers turned out to mark the occasion and to wish Postmistress Christine Mawby a long and happy retirement after 27 years in charge. Flowers were presented to Christine and to the also long serving part time staff, Penny Emmony and Jean Hunt. On March 30 over 80 villagers gathered in the village hall to formally wish Christine a happy retirement and to present her with a garden centre voucher for £500 that had been collected for her. Peter Welton and Brian Eales made the presentation. Click here to read about the history of Arnesby's Post Office. |
